The beta version of the new Bloglines site is online now. The new customizable startpage with the drag and drop functionality is really cool, otherwise I think it’s not so many new functionality in this release. The over all look and feel is much more Web 2.0 as in the actual version but that’s just look and feel.

This could be a really nice replacement for Visio if you are tired paying license fees or planning to migrate to an operating system which wouldn’t support Visio, such as Linux. I read about Cumulate Draw at Lifehacker and as usual this “hack” is very useable for me, ok I have to admit that it may take some releases to come closer to the functionalities in Visio but at least they are on the right way. The main advantage of Cumulate Draw is that it’s totally browser based which means that you don’t have to install it on your computer, just surf to it on the web and start drawing. This pretty nice feature seems to be its biggest disadvantage as well, as you would not be able to edit your drawings while traveling in planes and other locations where network is unavailable. Anyway it’s intuitive and it works so that’s just fine for me, I like the applications to the web approach.

I read about osalt.com on Lifehacker and I found this post very valuable for me as I’m currently overseeing my software portfolio and how to migrate from M$ and other commercial applications to open source alternatives. Osalt.com helps you in finding the right open source solution for your computer.

SyncMyCal is a Outlook/Google Calendar synchronization software that really works. In the past I looked at various software products and techniques to synchronize my Outlook calendar, which we are condemned to use at work, with my Google calendar. None of the various really worked for me in a practical way, and even SyncMyCal never worked for me before Nagarro Inc. released the V1.5 of the product. So last Friday I received an email response to one of my various support requests at SyncMyCal support saying that, with V1.5 all my problems should be resolved and I should give it a try. Done this today and what should I say, it worked just perfectly so I upgraded my free-version to the pro-version of the product as I think it’s really worth the 25$ for the code. The only limitation in the free-version is that you may only sync -3/+3 days from the current date otherwise the products are identical. Thumbs up for SyncMyCal!
