All your core dumps are belong to us…

Sitting in Denmark at a customer’s site I really got frustrated today. My newly installed ITCAM for WebSphere management server just don’t starts and all managing scripts throw core dumps to the left and right, the managing scripts are relying on POSIX so they need the SFU (Windows Services for Unix) installed. We are setting this thing up on a W2K3 Server SP-1 – bad combination as I know now. Another bad thing about the SFU is that it comes with a KSH and a CSH, who the hell wants that? Where’s the BASH implementation for SFU? Finally found a technote at IBM pointing to (surprise!) a hotfix at Micro$oft which addresses exactly that problem. Hopefully the next set up will be on a *ix platform so we can skip the SFU. Here are the links for the interested:

Technote about the problem

Hotfix from Micro$oft
